S.H.I.P. Aid believes that one of the most effective ways of benefiting a developing country is to invest in its educational system. As such, S.H.I.P. Aid delivered a vast amount of school supplies to various schools in Lesotho. Supplies included: National Geographic Magazines, Educational text books, Clipboards, Children's Scissors, Dictionaries, Blue Books, Paper, Back-Packs, Stationary, Rulers, Pens, Pencils, Wall Clocks, and Soccer Balls. The joy expressed by these children for the supplies delivered cannot be put into words.
Lesotho Facts:
- The World Bank estimates that by 2015, the GDP of Lesotho will be reduced by almost one-third due to HIV/AIDS
- Migrant laborers’ remittances have been critical in many household incomes; however, recent restructuring in South African mines, changing immigration policies, and falling gold prices have led to a large decline in Basotho workers in South Africa
- HIV/AIDS has drastically reduced household incomes for much of the population.
