Lesotho has the third largest AIDS population in the world…estimates are well over 31% of the total population. In a population of about 1,867,000*, HIV/AIDS in Lesotho is a crisis of tremendous proportions. The crisis affects not only health, but also has substantial social, economic, and cultural implications.
S.H.I.P. Aid delivered much needed medical supplies to the country of Lesotho and these precious items were greatly appreciated by hospital workers and patients alike. Medical supplies were donated to the following hospitals:
- St. James Hospital in Thaba-Tseka District
- St. Joseph's Hospital at Roma in Maseru District
- Scott Hospital at Morija in Maseru District
- Paki Medical Clinic in Maseru District
* Population estimates for Lesotho explicitly take into account the effects of excess mortality due to AIDS.
