The link between the HIV/AIDS pandemic and food insecurity has become shockingly stark - more and more families are too weak to grow enough food, while countless children orphaned by AIDS are being left to fend for themselves. Some of the hardest-hit families are in the highland villages. School kits and supplies were delivered to the children in this area. In addition, S.H.I.P. Aid delivered medical supplies to St. James Hospital in the Highlands District of Thaba-Tseka.
Lesotho Facts:
- Only 9% of Lesotho’s land is suitable for arable agriculture and over 80% of this is found in the Lowlands where it is not used for agriculture but is used for other purposes such as housing
- Only 8% of households have access to electricity, mainly in urban areas. Only 1% of rural households have access to electricity
